The Story of South Street Market

A dream three decades in the making.

More than 30 years ago, Barbie Iglesias envisioned a local place where busy folks could stop in and pick up fresh, nutritious, ready-made meals. She wanted to combine the integrity of healthy, home-cooked food with the convenience to fit into the busy modern lifestyle.

South Street Market is the realization of that dream—featuring delicious and nutritious meals with options to satisfy every dietary taste, whether you’re vegan, gluten-free or you just enjoy good food.

Every day, she and her team prepare and package a savory selection of fresh, healthy, seasonally inspired meals so South Street Market customers can eat a delicious home cooked meal, even if they don’t have the time to prepare it themselves.

At the heart of the South Street Market is a commitment to community and to consciousness that begins with a community-first philosophy of sourcing ingredients and products, which celebrate the excellence of Colorado farmers, entrepreneurs and artisans.

You are invited to come share this vision and make the South Street Market your local market.

Even as a kid, Barbie loved to cook. After getting a degree from CU-Boulder, she set out for culinary school in San Francisco. The farm-to-table movement was just gaining traction, and it fueled her vision of one day opening a fresh to-go market that provided a healthy alternative for those too busy to cook at home.

After years of perfecting her culinary style under world renowned chefs at various restaurants and hotels in the Bay Area, Barbie took a hiatus to raise a family. During this time she was a part of Boulder’s Meals-on-Wheels program. She also took the opportunity to expand her education by becoming a certified holistic nutritionist to help the program offer healthier meals to those they served. It’s this blend of culinary skill and nutritional expertise that is found in every delicious dish Barbie creates for the South Street Market menu.
